Home of Edward
& Mary
Parker - Metamora, Michigan
|
|
The house, a 3-level
contemporary, was built in 1952 by a student of prominent Detroit-area
architect Wallace Frost. The estate was known as "Old
Orchards". Edward and Mary moved to Metamora from Grosse Pointe
in the late 1940's, purchasing 160 acres with two older farm
houses. They lived in one, only several hundred yards away from
this site, until this house was built. A small addition to the
kitchen, seen at the right of the photo above was added in the
1970's. A horse barn and several storage sheds are to the right
of the house. After construction of the house, another 160 acres
was purchased. Edward and Mary kept horses, were active in the
Metamora Hunt, and hosted many relatives during the Hunt season.
Several pieces of land were sold off over the years, with the
remainder, over 220 acres, being sold after Mary's death in 1999.
