Edward Carroll Parker (19 June 1902 - 20 August 1977)

A gifted writer, Edward initially worked in advertising, and co-wrote several plays for a small community theatre group. After the Great Depression claimed his advertising job, he eventually found a position with a company that produced marine diesel engines, rising to service manager. During World War II, these engines were being installed in landing craft. Because of the consulting work that was required to train Navy and Coast Guard crews in operating and maintaining these engines, Edward was given an honorary commission of Lieutenant (JG) in the U.S. Coast Guard to facilitate travel under wartime restrictions. After the war, he retired, purchasing a farm about 50 miles north of Detroit, where he and his wife were active in the horse community and fox hunt. He was an active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Lapeer MI, where he served for many years as vestry member, clerk, warden, and lay minister. For a little over a year, he wrote a weekly column for the local newspaper. Over several decades, he conducted his own study of the genealogy of the Parkers and related families, which has proved a tremendous asset to this compilation.  The above photo dates from the late 1960's.
