During
the interval bet the dates of 1856 and 1866 J.G. Parker with his family
lived in California. Engaged in the whole sale grocery business with his
brother Horatio Parker (Edward Horatio). And some years were divided bet
San Francisco, Sacramento & Tulare. Co. In 1866 he returned to Oly.
and to a business in gen'l mdse - similar to that conducted in 1853. And
over whose store the first session of legislature in Wa terry was held.
In 1876 the P.S.T. Co was incorporated and for many years Cap't Parker ran
the "Messenger" bet Seattle Steilacoom and Tacoma and Olympia. In 1887 he
sold out his interest to his sons Gilmore H. and Herbert M. and after engaging
in the fire insurance business for a while in Tacoma and another visit to
California he and his wife returned to Olympia Wa and made their home at
Priest's Point till the "passing of life" here in Oct. 1909.
